The Laura Rose- 1960 Ford F100

In September of 2009, I got the itch to look for a street-ized gasser, such as an early straight axle Falcon.  During this search I opened up my criteria to rat rod type trucks with the hope of replacing my current truck with a nice little project. The Laura Rose truck was about 225 miles away, it was more than I wanted to pay, and on top of that it was a six cylinder.  I continued searching and simply could not find a better truck for the cost. When I saw it in person, I had to have it.  It’s a huge change, but it’s also a huge challenge familiarizing myself with an inline six.  The 300 six, with the stock head, can be compared to a 400 cubic inch V8 with factory 289/302/5.0L heads that flow 170 cfm, at best.   The truck already had some bolt-ons which appealed to me, although I have swapped the Offenhauser Dual Port Intake for a Clifford Research, since the picture was taken.

Farewell to the 'Pinto Bean'

In the summer of 2001, my pride and joy had to be let go. After 15 years of serving me as a perfect project car and race car, family and schedule priorities eventually won the battle. A 'trailer only' car is simply not practical for me right now. Rumours say the new owner has installed another motor and is happily running in the 7.00/10.90 type classes. Here are some of the last photos I took of the car.
